Group Therapy

In group therapy, 1-2 psychologists provide therapy to a group of clients who have similar mental health challenges. For example, this could be a group of children or teens with anxiety or a group of parents whose children have ADHD and behavioural difficulties. Groups typically meet weekly for 1.5-2 hours over a period of approximately 8-10 weeks. Children’s groups are typically run at the same time as psychoeducational groups for their parents. Parenting groups are offered in the evening to accommodate families’ busy schedules.

Groups offer some unique advantages over individual therapy. Meeting others who have similar challenges can help you to feel that you are not alone in your struggles. Groups provide a support network of people who really understand what you are facing. Other group members may have tried strategies that you have not yet tried and may be able to provide feedback on what did/did not work for them. Groups also tend to increase motivation for change.

Our clinicians are currently developing two new groups that will begin in Fall 2017 or Spring 2018:

  • Parenting Children with ADHD
  • CBT for OCD in Teens
